Centenary of coryphee

On October 22, the Institute of High Temperature Electrochemistry of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences celebrated the 100th anniversary of the organizer and first director of the IHTE, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor M.V. Smirnov. The expanded scientific seminar of the laboratory of molten salts, which was leaded by Mikhail Vladimirovich for 40 years (from 1949 to 1988), was attended not only by the institute’s staff, but also by their colleagues from the Institute of Solid State Chemistry, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Physical Technological Institute of Ural Federal University.

The current head of the laboratory of molten salts DrSc (Chemistry) N.K. Tkachevopened the meeting. Students of Professor M.V. Smirnov, V.A. Khokhlov and V.P. Stepanov, told about the scientific biography, scientific achievements and contribution their Masterto electrochemistry.

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.G. Bamburov, doctor of chemical sciences E.V. Polyakov (Institute of Solid State Chemistry, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Professor A.R. Beketov (Physical-Technological Institute of UrFU) also shared their memories about an outstanding scientist, teacher and wonderful person. They all talked about the importance of maintaining the memory of distinguished predecessors. It is important not only for veterans, but above all for the younger generation.
