Nowadays scientists from the Institute of High Temperature Electrochemistry in collaboration with colleagues from the Ural Federal University work on power engineering of future. Chemists are investigating and producing fuel cells workable in outlying regions of Siberia. There such fuel cells are suitable for stations of cathodic protection to decrease the damage of pipes from corrosion as well as for reducing of financial costs of project because there is no need to build a power lines.
A similar fuel cell with higher power is currently undergoing an experimental operation at one of the gas distribution station near the Ekaterinburg. There it is autonomously supplies an energy to all electric equipment on the object and have been successfully operating since 2014.
