The head of RAS concerning novel research program in Russia

The novel program of fundamental scientific research in Russia will help suggesting mechanisms for overcoming the lag of the Russian Federation from other leading countries in the field of science and technology,  this is what the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev told journalists on the eve of the annual general meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences opening in Moscow on Tuesday.

The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of  novel program for fundamental scientific research in  Russia for a long-term period (2021-2035). Sergeyev noted that currently in Russia “the transition from acquired knowledge to technology is quite difficult.” “And the issue of (overcoming) the technological lag is now put at our highest level. The President of the country highlighted this question in a message to the Federal Assembly in 2018,” said Sergeyev.

“And here the role of science and fundamental science is very large. Thus, we must propose mechanisms for how we can ensure the transition from knowledge generation to technology,” the head of the RAS added.

In accordance with the new edition of the Law related to the RAS, accepted last year, the Academy of Sciences is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the program of basic research in Russia. The main difference between the new program and the previous similar document is that it should cover all fundamental research in the country, which is carried out by academic institutions, universities, state research centers, and state corporations – that is, all institutions that have a scientific component.
