2019 – the International year of the Periodic table of chemical elements

The year 2019 has been proclaimed as the International year of the periodic table of chemical elements by the United Nations General Assembly. This large-scale event has been dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic law of chemical elements by the great Russian scientist D.I. The opening ceremony of the International year of the periodic table of chemical elements was held on January 29, 2019 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.

In Russia, the opening ceremony of the International year was held on February 6, 2019 in Moscow, at the Presidium of the Russian academy of sciences, and was timed to coincide with the Day of russian science and at the same time to the birthday of Dmitri I. Mendeleev.

Dmitry Medvedev,  Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Tatyana Golikova,  Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Kotyukov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Olga Vasilyeva, Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, Academician Viktor Sadovnichy, President of the Russian academy of sciences, Academician Alexander Sergeyev attended the solemn ceremony and meeting of the organizing committee.   It was decided to establish a prestigious scientific prize named after D.I. Mendeleev during the meeting.
